ASMC has once again chosen the Zia Kids for our
upcoming community service project. The “Zia Kids” are children who attend
Zia Elementary School and whose parents aren’t on welfare, but are barely
scraping by. They often lived in motels, low-grade apartments or even on the
streets. New school supplies are a luxury these kids don’t normally have.
These kids are very excited about school, and when they have new school
supplies, their eyes light up! The counselor at the school identifies the
children and their families who are in need of assistance. Then she gives
our donated items to those children.
Some suggested donations for school supplies are: Backpacks, Pencils,
Colored Pencils, Paper, Glue, Colored Markers, Crayons, Scissors, Erasers,
Spiral Notebooks, Pocket Folders, Wide Ruled Notebook Paper, Hand Sanitizer
and Tissue Boxes.
We are accepting monetary donations too.
You can bring your donations to the luncheon next week (August 16th, 11:30,
in Building 201. Or you can drop off the donations to Rose-Marie Strach,
Building 497, room 121A, or Cheryl Valdez, Building 413, room 143. OR, call
Rose-Marie at 6-0430 and she’ll stop by and pick them up!
Last year our school supply donation was an extremely successful event. ASMC
is hoping for the same success this year!
Thank you for your generosity ASMC Members!
